I can do a decent job proof reading my own things, although when I have been looking at the same thing for a while I can miss typos. It always seem easier to proof some else's work.

I remember in our ad agency there was this one copywriter who was asked to proof read and he would always do it out loud...He would read the text as if he was learning his abcs...it was fun watching him bend over the text and concentrating while others stood around him smiling as he worked...

I do rely on the spellcheck features in Word and my browser a lot of the time. I try to keep a watch for switched words that may be spelled correctly but misused.

There also can be an issue of using British English spelling vs. US English.

That is a very common problem that I face with my work taggart...the britsh and US English dilemna...there are some clients who need Us English while others need the other one...and I have to switch to the usage instantly...thanks to Word atleast many word spellings are taken care of by the automatic spell check

I love spell check. It is a wonder that some people do not use it. Then again, one has to get the word close enough to the original word to have spell check kick in. LOL

You have to be careful with the spell checkers because they are only as good as the installed dictionary. I have one that doesn't have a lot of words that I use, so I'm always having to add it to the dictionary.
